In the quest to have more flashlights than NY Fire Dept my buddy ( We'll call him Steve ) purchased a couple of these Mag- Lite LED Xl100. He was kind enough to give me one ( I too believe in having a flashlight for every occasion ). First let me say you need a PHD in flashlights ( which my buddy has )to first start using this flashlight, but once you watch a video or two your good to go. It's fun and for the price it does what much more expensive flashlights do.

Conceal Carry

This could be a touchy subject, if you believe in the right to carry a concealed weapon or just like small concealable weapons read on... if not stop reading and wait for my next gadget.
In the qwest to find a very small concealable handgun you have many choices. I have tried most of them. Let me first say that a small handgun such as a .380 should be considered only as a last resort. I prefer a larger caliber but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do when you just can't conceal that glock 23.
I recently purchased a DiamondBack .380, great little gun and shots very well. One of my favorite things about it is that seems to be a baby glock.

You know how sometimes your sitting around and you find a lighter in your pocket, you start playing with it and you think to yourself " hey I wish this lighter could reach approx. 2,300 °F and I wish it could solder stuff " well I have a friend, we'll call him "Steve" who often has these thoughts. 2 new knives/tools

I was recently introduced to SOG knives and tools ( luckily it was my birthday ) The first is the SOG SEAL pup survival knife with a fixed blade and the second is a multi tool. I have always wanted a great fixed blade knife and this sure fits the criteria of an excellent knife. As for the power assist tool, I have always had leatherman products but the added feature of assisted opening on the knife side of the tool is great. Easy one handed operation is a great added benefit.

Energizer Night Strike Swivel Light

Energizer may be one of my favorite batteries but I don't often think of them when it comes to a great flashlight. Well boy was I wrong, I recently received a Energizer night strike flashlight and have been using it for about 3 weeks. I am completely and totally impressed by this light. My last few posts have been gun related, so I thought I would share a fantastic weekend experience that I recently had. we were going to visit relatives in Phoenix area and in the past few years I had purchased some items online from the Scottsdale Gun Club. I thought what a perfect opportunity to visit the place in person, online the store looks great but we all know how we make something look nicer than it is using the web and photo shop. I arrived at the club around 10am Saturday morning and let me tell you it's nicer than even the website shows it. The place is big with a great selection of everything you could want gun related ( no shortage of ammo either ). I spent about an hour loitering and drooling over all the guns and gear. I then went on to use the indoor shooting range, WOW this was nice! Wait i forgot to mention the best part, they rent machine guns! You can choose from a large selection of weapons that are fully automatic. It took me about 15 minutes to decide on which one ( they all look like a lot of fun to shoot ) I decided on the MP5 K ( the m60 was out for service, I'll try it next time! ). One of the employees took me back gave me a quick debrief on the MP5 and then we started shooting, holy cow was it fun. After about 3 hours in the store I left, to return the next day for a little more fun and browsing. The staff was very helpfull and answered all my questions about owning a silencer ( my next purchase ) If your ever in the Scottsdale area ( or make a special trip ) it is well worth the visit.

Ok so it's been a while

Today I don't really have a gadget to review, more like a new hobby. I recently decided that #1 I didn't have enough to do in my life ( that's a joke ) and #2 I like the old west and #3 I love guns. So what better new hobby that cowboy action action shooting, you get to shoot cool old style guns and dress like Billy the kid and Jesse James ( I'm still working on this part ) . This week I decided to get my pistols. They require authentic old guns or Replicas of them. I turned to my friends at Custom Cartridge for advice ( I always do ) They suggested the Ruger Vaquero, I said yes just based on the name alone VAQUERO, it sounds very western to me. The guns were ordered in .357/.38, Stainless with black grips. Holy cow are these nice lookin and shootin guns ( Billy the kid lookout theirs a new Marshal in town! ) Next on the advice of my friends at Custom Cartridge I went with the Puma lever action rifle model 92 in .357/.38 ( note the caliber, I can shoot the same ammo through both my pistols and rifle. I haven't shot the rifle yet. I promise to write again soon and give you an update on how it's going.

I got a new flashlight for Christmas and thought I would share it with you. This is the 2nd Fenix light I got as a gift and I love it. Ride Your Bike!

I was reading a little post at REI.com and thought I would share it with everyone. It's about riding your bike. Makes sense to me!

Welcome back to the saddle! By reading this, it means you already taking that first step towards getting back on a bike for fun or transportation. We think that's awesome, and we're here to help you go for it.

So what has you thinking about riding your bike? There are in fact lots of great reasons to dust off your bike (or even ride for the very first time) and start pedaling:

* High gas prices (ah, perhaps you've heard of this?).
* Paying all those other car-related expenses: parking, repairs, insurance.
* Getting some exercise.
* Doing your part to be more "green."
* Getting some fresh air.
* Reducing your stress level.
* Seeing your environs at a slower pace.

Sounds great, you say, but let's get real for a minute, too. Most of us have found plenty of reasons NOT to go riding, so let's take on those fears one by one.
12 Cycling Myths, Exposed!

Myth #1: Biking requires too much gear.
Reality: The basic necessities for cycling are just you, a bike and a helmet to protect your noggin. You don't need fancy-schmancy biking gear to ride a bike. Of course, the gear is nice to have, but that can come later. Just get on a bike and go.

Myth #2: It's costly to buy a bike and all the gear for cycling.
Reality: It's actually far cheaper than buying and operating a car. Parking is free. A bike doesn't need gas. It has fewer components and requires less-expensive maintenance.

Myth #3: Only expensive bikes are any good.
Reality: While pricey bikes can be "nicer" to ride, almost any bike in good working condition can get you to where you want to go. Even an old-fashioned single-speed will work. It may just take you longer and you don't have the luxury of gearing up or down for hills, but you will get where you want to go.

Myth #4: Biking takes too much time.
Reality: It does require a little extra planning to ride, but, depending on the distance and traffic, it might actually take less time to bike than it does to drive. Plus, you burn calories and can run errands while you ride.

Myth #5: Biking is too dangerous.
Reality: Most cyclists ride for years without mishap. Acting like a driver, being predictable, wearing bright clothing, being aware of your surroundings, anticipating driver behavior, making eye contact with drivers, having hands ready on brakes, watching for car doors opening, following traffic rules and claiming your lane will help improve your safety.

Myth #6: Bike seats are uncomfortable.
Reality: Bikes generally come with a generic, unisex saddle. If yours feels uncomfortable, try upgrading to one with gel padding or one that's gender specific. Bike seats also come in different sizes and shapes, such as cutaway models.

Myth #7: I'm clueless about how to maintain my bike.
Reality: Maybe so, but it's easy to learn the basics. Sign up for a class at your local REI or take advantage of our online how-to videos and articles. Or, if bike-maintenance is really not your thing, there's no shame in taking your ride to your REI Bike Shop for a professional tune-up or repair.

Myth #8: I'm too out of shape to ride.
Reality: Riding your bike will help you get back into shape. For a little inspiration, try our savings calculator. In the beginning, don't be afraid to stop and walk—especially on a hill. The more you bike, the easier it will get. Of course, if you have a serious health condition, check with your doctor before riding.

Myth #9: You can't carry much stuff on a bike.
Reality: You'd be surprised how many groceries or work items you can bring on a bike. Start by wearing a daypack or messenger bag, or add a rack and carry your things in panniers or attachable bags. For even bigger loads, consider a bike trailer.

Myth #10: It's too far for me to commute to work.
Reality: You can always ride just part of the way or only one way. Drive to a different starting point to reduce the distance. Catch a ride to work with someone and bike home. Or take the bus—most have a rack in front for bicycles.

Myth #11: I'll get sweaty.
Reality: Sometimes this can be difficult to avoid, but you can always just ride casually to avoid too much exertion. If possible, ride in the morning when it's cooler. Remember, when you're cycling you will usually catch a breeze to help cool off.

Myth #12: My work clothes will get wrinkled.
Reality: If you decide to ride to work, pack along work clothes with fabrics that are less prone to wrinkles when packed, or use packing folders and cubes to reduce wrinkles. On those days when you're driving or going by bus, bring clothes for your bike-riding days so you don't have to carry them on your ride.

Ever since I was a young lad I dreamed of the day of having a H&K MP5, Ok maybe not since I was a young lad but at least the last 15 years. About 3 months ago a friend of mine ( we'll call him Jay ) showed me this great new gun that was coming out. Needless to say I was very excited ( any time a new fancy gun comes out I'm excited ) my wife wasn't! we'll guess what, it came in. I put 400 rounds through it this last weekend and holy crap is it fun.

The GSG-5 was designed from scratch to be a very close replica to the MP5. The controls are identical. The appearance is very close, and unless you have a real MP5 right there to compare against, you'd be hard pressed to find the differences.

BAD PLASTIC ! GOOD PLASTIC !

Recently we have all been hearing about good and bad plastics in water bottles ( and other stuff ) I am so confused on what PLASTIC I can drink out of! They say numbers 3, 6 and 7 and are BAD and that numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5 are GOOD. So here is my solution to you. As usual I did not find this my friend Steve did and passed it on to me ( give credit where credit is due ) I ordered a few from REI.com and really like them. They also come in different sizes.

As some of you may know, I like knives. I recently played with but have not yet purchased the new Kershaw E.T. knife ( I am waiting for my friend Steve to buy it; he buys all the fancy new knives). E.T. means External Toggle. It is a very interesting knife, not so practical, but still kinda cool.

I HIT 42 MPG !!!!!

I usually don't continue the same blog, but I am so happy with my purchase that thought I would give you a little more insight to my ride. I have slightly altered my driving habits and am now getting 42mpg in town in my Camry! I have read where some people get 50 mpg in town so I will continue to try and achieve this. This car truly teaches you to drive a little more conservatively and I must say I am enjoying it. I am also enjoying all the people thinking that I am doing such a great thing for our mother Earth (truth be told I am doing this to save some GREEN - green money) but it's nice to know I am burning less fuel in the process.

Geocaching—Get in the Game!

Geocaching ("jee-oh-cashing"). What is geocaching? Simply put, it's a treasure hunt, but instead of a worn and yellowed map marked with an "X", you'll have in hand a set of geographical coordinates plus that ubiquitous satellite positioning device, a GPS unit. And instead of hunting for a chest buried in sand, you'll be hunting for a cache of goodies strategically placed in an environmentally friendly site above ground.

Geocaching is for everyone. This family friendly pursuit of discovery can be done while walking, hiking, cycling, paddling or simply strolling through the city.
Route mapping is key. Your GPS unit and an old-fashioned map go hand in hand.
Bring the essentials (see below) so that you're prepared for anything.
Enjoy the game. Geocaching exercises the mind as well as the body.
Simple rules of protocol keeps it fun for everyone. The number one rule in the game of geocaching is to follow the Golden Rule.

How to Play

This game of high-tech hide-and-seek knows no boundaries. Caches are hidden all over the world by fellow geocachers who put together a hodgepodge of trinkets, a log book and pen or pencil, and perhaps a disposable camera. This hoard is then stuffed into a weatherproof box such as a Tupperware® container and hidden under a rock, behind a tree or maybe even in a more urban environment. The latitude and longitude coordinates of these containers—some no bigger than a film canister—are posted on one of several Websites for fellow geocachers to follow. One of the first Websites to collect and post geocache coordinates, and to organize information into one easily accessible venue was Geocaching.com. This site is still the most-popular. Check it out first to find a cache near you, tips and updates to the game, and photos and stories shared by fellow geocachers.

True to its grassroots origins, the rules of the game continually morph as players originate new twists to the rules of engagement: Caches can be 'virtual' making it all about the thrill of the hunt rather than the reward at the end; trinkets can include 'hitchhikers,' which are specific trinkets with goals attached, such as getting from New York to New Zealand; some coordinates can be garnered only through solving ciphers. Though always evolving, geocaching does follow a few fundamental guidelines. Among them are not placing caches on private land without permission or in national parks or wilderness areas, not crossing private property without permission to reach a geocache, not including offensive or inflammatory material in a cache, and maintaining a 'tread softly' and Leave No Trace philosophy while geocaching.

The Basics

With geocaching, there are no dues to pay, there is no special club to join, there is no admittance fee. Log onto Geocaching.com and, without having to register or pay a subscription fee, you'll have access to thousands of cache coordinates. Just as the game transcends geographic and political boundaries, it also transcends gender and age boundaries. Geocache sites can be easy or challenging and their level of difficulty is indicated alongside the cache's coordinates so you'll know ahead of time.

Geocaching and GPS units go hand in hand. Even the most basic of units is enough to track down the location of a geocache. But to get a visual acquaintance with the area you'll be searching, a map is a must. Your GPS can tell you the straight line between two points, but unless the route's waypoints have been preloaded into your unit, only a map can show you that squiggly path between you and your destination.

As with any other muscle-powered outdoor pursuit, geocaching requires you be ready for the elements. When setting out to search for or to place your geocache, be sure to bring along a basic survival kit as you never know where your adventure might take you.

Geocaching employs the skills of problem and puzzle solving: you'll sleuth for and identify clues, learn navigation and orienteering, and you may get an introduction to other related games such as letterboxing.

Following geocaching Ps & Qs ensures its survival. Without demonstrated etiquette, the activity would die out. Remember a few basic geocaching tenants: Hide-and-Seek—and don't forget to Share. Taking a souvenir from a cache? Leave something behind in exchange. 'CITO'—cache in, trash out. Leave the environmental as pristine as, or better than, you found it.
